On Tuesday January 21 a number of parishioners from St. Mary's Parish including the Council's Chaplain Fr. Jay Mello and Grand Knight Charlie Spath traveled more than 13 hours by bus in the middle of a snow storm down to Washington, DC to attend the annual March for Life on Wednesday 1/22. It was wonderful for us to see all the clergy, young children and other members of the Knights of Columbus who traveled great distances in some very tough road conditions to get to Washington DC and show their support for the Pro-Life movement in this country. We know we are not alone. Here are a few photos of us at the March for Life: On our way to the March. Fr. Jason Brilhante, GK Charlie Spath and Chaplain Fr. Jay Mello are on the left of this photo. Getting ready for the March to begin......Fr. Jay Mello, Fr. Jason Brilhante also of the Fall River Diocese and GK Charlie Spath cannot wait for things to get started. Fr. Jay Mello is ready to go.... The March is finally underway and Fr. Jay is very happy that it is. Here we go.... The day after the march, Fr. Jay gave the homily at a special Mass at St. Matthew's Cathedral in downtown Washington DC. He along with Fr. Jason Brilhante and 4 other priests con-celebrated the Mass in honor of the Right to Life at Washington DC's beautiful Cathedral. Fr. Jason (the newest ordained priest in the Fall River Diocese) was the main celebrant. What a thrill for Fr. Jason and the whole congregation in the Cathedral. We were not alone. Many others from Southern Massachusetts joined us on this pilgrimage to the Nation's Capital for this important March and at the Mass of celebration the following day. While in Washington DC, GK Charlie Spath visited the National Shrine and visited the special tower and mural that the Knights of Columbus donated to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception back in 1959. See below..... Plaque at the base of the "Knights Tower" acknowledging the Knights of Columbus for their generous gift back in 1959. The Incarnation Dome mural donated by the Knights of Columbus back in 1959. Fr. Michael McGivney's statue outside the Shrine at McGivney Hall on the campus of Catholic University where the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is located The Mansfield Knights of Columbus would like to thank all those that took time out on Saturday January 11th to donate blood for those in need. With your help we were able to donate 53 pints of blood to the Mass. General Blood Bank.
